Which Injectable is Right for You?

Posted on: October 29th, 2015 by California Skin Institute

At California Skin Institute, we offer a wide variety of facial fillers and injectable treatments to smooth away lines and wrinkles, restoring a more youthful appearance, without the potential risks and downtime associated with surgery.* We have many solutions to fit each patient’s individual aesthetic goals and needs.*

Botox vs. Fillers

Among the most widely-used injectables are neuromodulators. Neuromodulators are part of a family of injectables containing Botulinum type A, which relaxes facial muscles.* The most common neuromodulators are Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin, among which Botox is the most common.* Neuromodulators are best suited for treating vertical and horizontal wrinkles around the eyes and forehead, such as frown lines and crow’s feet.*

For the best outcomes, the entire face must be taken into consideration.* Since neuromodulators cannot add volume or provide support beneath the skin, they cannot improve facial contours or treat certain types of wrinkles, such as nasolabial folds (parenthesis around the mouth).* For this reason, dermal fillers are commonly used in conjunction with neuromodulators.*

Dermal fillers complement neuromodulators.* Instead of targeting facial muscles, fillers provide support to the underlying skin structures, restoring volume that is lost due to the aging process.* They fill in wrinkles; smoothing them away from the inside, out.*

Fillers are best suited for softening deeper wrinkles and creases in the face and around the mouth; like nasolabial folds, wrinkles and lines on the lips and around the mouth, and those extending down to the jawline.* Fillers can also be used to create plumpness in lips, enhance shallow contours, and reduce the appearance of recessed scars.*

Which Filler is Best?

When it comes to choosing the best filler for you, there are many options available to California Skin Institute patients.* Among these are Juvederm, Restylane, Belotero, Radiesse, Sculptra, and Bellafill.* Juvederm, Restylane, and Belotero are all FDA-approved hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers that instantly smooth moderate to severe wrinkles.*

  • Juvederm is best suited for moderate to severe facial wrinkles.*
  • Restylane is the name associated with a family of fillers. Each is uniquely designed to treat different facial areas, including a formula specifically created for adding plumpness to the lips.*
  • Belotero is one of the lightest fillers, making it best suited for treating fine lines.*
  • Radiesse is a calcium hydroxylapatite filler that creates immediate improvements and stimulates the body to create its own, natural collagen.*
  • Sculptra is poly-L-lactic acid volumizer that helps to replace lost collagen in key areas, including the temples. It offers gradual improvements that develop over time.*
  • BellaFill is a long-term collagen-based filler.*

Important considerations during the selection of injectable treatments include the areas you’d like to have treated, how quickly you’d like to see improvements, and the longevity of those outcomes.* Your unique bone and muscle structures and any aesthetic imbalances that may exist must also be taken into consideration so that the entire facial appearance is addressed.*

Achieving Natural Looking Results

The key to natural looking outcomes lies in the experience, skill, and precision of the provider.* At California Skin Institute, our providers administer thousands of injectable treatments to patients.* Through their collective experience, our providers have developed deep insight into the procedures that we offer.*

This means that we don’t simply administer injectables, but rather view each treatment as a way to create a balanced, natural appearance of the face.* Injections must be performed with a great deal of care because oftentimes it’s the nuances that make the biggest difference in your appearance and in creating outcomes that look natural.*
